8th Greek Backgammon Federation Tournament Report

The 8th monthly backgammon tournament set by the Greek Backgammon Federation (GBgF) was won by Manos Mastorakis. It was the second victory for Mastorakis, who had also championed the 6th backgammon event in the series. George Klitsas, who won the second backgammon tournament, still rules the top position of the Hellenic national ranking list.

The last monthly tournament of the Greek Backgammon Federation was held in June 7, 2008 at the Cafe Aias in Athens with 21 entrants. Manos Mastorakis and Christos Groutsos competed at the final table with the former overplaying the latter and thus grabbing the second GBgF title in two months.

Manos Mastorakis and Christos Groutsos, as well as George Klitsas who tops the National ranking list for over 6 months, are planning to attend the upcoming World Series of Backgammon Riviera Cup in Cannes. The three of them will be representing Greece at the Nations Cup international team event.

According to Mastorakis, his past experience playing international backgammon tournaments and competing against leading players had strengthen his play and contributed to his success at the recent GBgF monthly tournament.

The Greek Backgammon Federation is taking a summer break, so the next event in the series is expected to take place in September. Next time, Thessaloniki will be hosting the monthly backgammon tournament.
