Anarchy Online fixes Security FlawsSoon after ISE (Independent Security Evaluators) discovered safety flaws at the popular MMORPGs Anarchy Online and Age of Conan, Funcom, the publisher of the online game, had announced fixing those flaws. According to ISE experts, only one of the two found vulnerabilities have been patched properly, yet there is no crucial risk to the gamers' security and privacy. ISE, Baltimore based software company focusing on security evaluation, has discovered two serious safety flaws at the two best selling online games Anarchy Online and the Age of Conan. While in Age of Conan, hackers can only crash the game during play and peep at other players' computer files, in its successful ancestor Anarchy Online, a hacker can invade the other player's computer completely and control it as if it's his own. Thus, an innocent Age of Conan player can unknowingly reveal its secret files to his less innocent opponent, while the Anarchy Online pure victim might even find his own computer remotely controlled by another player and even used to attack other gamers' computers. Anarchy online indeed! And that's before mentioning the potential risk in purchasing virtual goods using real money and actual credit card numbers in an underdefensed multi player online game. Lucky for Anarchy Online hundreds of thousands of subscribers, these security flaws have been patched following ISE alarming findings, Funcom, the Norwegian company that distributes these games and others had immediately healed those ills. Though ISE are not completely satisfied with Age of Conan remaining buffer overflow, they have released a calming statement saying that no major risk is predicted to the players, but for caution sake they repeat their recommendation to be extra careful when downloading game scripts from third parties.
