Backgammon Clubs in New York

Like everything in New York City, the backgammon clubs are bigger, have lots more players, larger tournaments and open longer hours. Here is a guide to New York backgammon clubs in the past and in the present.

Ace Point Club

Ace Point Club used to be the most famous backgammon club in New York, located on the East Side on the 5th floor of East 60th St, the backgammon club was open daily and offered backgammon, cards, scrabble, monopoly games to its members. Additionally, monthly backgammon tournaments with trophies and cash prizes used to take place in the venue. However, the website wasn't updated since 2003, and it seems like the New York backgammon club is no longer operated.

Midtown Backgammon & Chess Club

Located in 20 West 41st Street, The Midtown Backgammon & Chess Club is mainly known for its outdoors branch on Bryant Park, where everyone can rent backgammon or chess boards for $3 an hour. The backgammon club is open 7 days a week from 11 am to 4 am; backgammon tournaments are held weekly on Sundays at 2 am with 1st prize guaranteed. During the spring, summer, and fall, the tournaments are held outside, on Bryant Park.

Time Square Backgammon & Chess

Also located in Bryant Park, the backgammon club is open everyday from April to December. Its central location (short walk from Time Square) and its low rates draw all types of players to the Time Square Backgammon & Chess club from random passerby, tourists and the local backgammon and chess gamblers.

The Mayfair Club

Similar to the Ace Point Club, The Mayfair Club is a legendary New York backgammon – and poker - meeting place that is out of business for several years now. The Mayfair Club had to close its doors to the public in 2000 following the authorities demand. On its last years, the originally backgammon and bridge club mainly hosted high stake poker games and served as a training center for every aspiring poker player in New York.
