Backgammon Glossary
Backgame BAR POINT(S): In hit this is a player's seven position. In the other three games bar points are a player's five and seven points. BEARING OFF: The act of removing your men (pieces) from the board after they have all entered their final destination. BLOCK: A position on the board that you occupy and that cannot be used by your opponent. In hit and plakoto you need two or more pieces on a position for a block. In moultezim and gioul you need one or more. BLOT: A term used in hit and plakoto to denote a single piece sitting on a position, and that can be hit or captured. BUILDER: Each extra piece resting on a point. Also called a rider.
BURNING THE PIECES: When a player is forced to place all his pieces on the last two positions of their final table, when it is not advantageous to do so. CONFRONTATION GAME: A plakoto game during which no player has captured any of the opponent's pieces. COOKING THE PIECES: The act of placing your pieces at their final table in a way that helps you in bearing them off. CUBE: See Doubling cube.
