From the WBA point of view, 2007 will be remembered as the year in which the European Backgammon Tour (EBGT) was launched.
In 2007, the European Backgammon Tour (EBGT) was launched by the World Backgammon Association (WBA). The 4-stops tour has drawn about 200 players and $600,000 prize pool that will be shared by the winners. The 3 top winners of the EGBT will be announced at the upcoming Portuguese Open, scheduled to April 29-May 4, 2008.
The second season of the European Backgammon Tour will consist of 5 stops and at least 1 million dollars prize pool. Starting in the upcoming April at the Estoril casino in Portugal and continuing in Tbilisi, Georgia at the Georgian open and Gogi Buki Memorial, the Romanian Open and the French Open and European Doubles Championships. The 2008 European Backgammon Tour will be finished in the City of Venice, Italy, at the Venice International Tournament in November 27-30, 2008.
Another World Backgammon Association effort in Europe was regarded a success. The backgammon TV program "Crowns Cup" was produced in collaboration with the WBA. The 16-episodes series that was shot in Berlin, Germany, featured 16 players and a prize pool of $250,000, was broadcast in the German AXN channel and gained high rating for a backgammon TV program.
