Backgammon Season Opens in GreeceThe Greek Backgammon Federation has launched its 2009/10 season on September 12th, 2009 in a multiplayer tournament, attended by Greece's top backgammon players, including Greece's self declared number 1 backgammon player, Giorgos Klitsas, who served as the Tournament Director as well.
The first backgammon tournament of the Greek Backgammon Federation second season was attended by 24 players, who competed in a double elimination event; the main, championship competition was won by Thanassis Katsios, the number 2 ranked player in Greece, while the consolation division was championed by the TD himself. Mr. Klitsas, who is also known by the nickname Krull, continues to top Greece's ELO rating list with 1661 points as well as the Master Points with 97 points, while his runner up Katsios Thanassis, crawls behind with 88 points.
Unlike Greece's ELO rating list, which calculates the players' relative skill level according to their wins and losses in every major backgammon event they participated in recently, the Master Points takes in account only GbgF events, and renew itself at the start of every season. Though it is too early to tell, it seems like Giorgos Klitsas, who had also won the 3rd Nice Backgammon Open earlier this year, is going to maintain his position as the best backgammon player in Greece.
