Bet on your Skill Game SkillsA new website succeeds in by-passing the US internet gambling ban without breaking the law. The site, called BringIt, allows players of video games such as Street Fighter, Rock Band, Halo or Call for Duty to win real money by putting their gaming skill to the you wanna bet on it test, or in the CEO words, put their money where their mouth is.
In first glance, the beta version of BringIt operates like a standard online skill gaming site. It still does not offer bonuses to entice new registrants, but it does offer tournaments play, limits registration for 18+ adults and restricts the size of the bets according to a levels program, so beginners will not be able to bet on more than $25 games. It also calculates the players' rating and emphasize that the video games that constitute the object of the bets are all of games of skill. What makes BringIt legal in most of the states where playing poker online is not.
Comparing to Online Backgammon and Poker
BringIt remains illegal in Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Maryland, Montana, Tennessee and Vermont, the same states that forbid online backgammon for money in their jurisdiction area as well. As in online backgammon and online poker, (both skill games by several court determinations), the website is free to use and players infuse 10% of their money bets as commission, plus an extra charge of about $4 collected only from the winner.
BringIt also use the same allegation as online backgammon and poker rooms use to separate themselves from the banned world of online gambling. While only providing the betting platform for gamers who play the actual games on different platforms, mainly game consoles, BringIt (and similarly online backgammon and poker sites) interdicts betting on the outcome of a game played by third, unconnected side (as acceptable in sports betting, another form of gambling that is illegal for US citizens via the internet), and since the games played require skillfulness and expertise, one has to best his opponent to win, rather than hit the jackpot.
