Lara Croft as Dark Pink Knight ?Following recent studies breaking gender stereotypes of gamers and implying on the growing number of female gamers, and slowdown in sales of the latest Tomb Raider series Underworld, led Eidos Interactive to declare on a new direction in the design of the most successful human video game heroine, Lara Croft.Eidos wants Lara Croft to become more appealing to women gamers. Yet they do not necessarily intend to make the 10th game in the Tomb Raider series a casual game, replace her perpetual boots with designer stilettos and force breast shrinkage upon her. Robert Brent, Eidos CFO gave cinematic Batman as an example of a fictional character who was converted "from the rather sad character of the Michael Keaton era to the noir style of The Dark Knight." ![]() women love aesthetic gymnastics It is not the first time an Eidos representative promise to change Lara Croft and make her a family friendlier protagonist. Ever since Lara Croft designer Toby Gard had accidentally zoomed in fruit of his labor's breast in 150% more than originally planned, the archeological adventures of Ms. Croft were no longer the center of any attention. Following criticism, her lush figure was subtled for the release of Legend in 2006. The game sales exceeded their expectations, though it was not indicated specifically that the extra sold games were purchased by women. But the US sales of Tomb Raider Underworld, released November 2008, were about 500,000 copies less than expected, reducing Eidos full year revenue in 30-50 million dollars. Eidos's response was, then, to metamorphosis the first lady of online games, who had celebrated her 10th anniversary in the virtual sphere back in 2006. Hopefully, their appreciation of what women wants is higher than this of an average women's magazine publisher, and we will not end up with an empty, superficial, calorie counter Lara Croft.
