The Wii sports pack, priced at £179, with its 3D handheld pointing device that can simulate one-on-one sports games such as golf, tennis and boxing, has become one of the most requested gifts in wedding lists, so admitted two top department stores in the UK.
If a video game as a Valentine's Day gift almost sounded like a conspiracy, there come the headlines about the inclusion of the Wii sports pack into the famous John Lewis wedding list to remind us, again, that the times have certainly changed; that online games are not only played by untouched teenagers and celibate fellows and that wedding gifts are no longer filling their original purpose of equipping the young couple's new home with the basics.
This recent finding show that many young couples enjoy playing online games together, and that at least some of them would be spending their first night as man and wife playing Wii sports. At the same time, many of them would prefer milking their wedding guests with extravagant goods more or less traditional such as spa coupons, digital frames and the famous 7th generation game console rather than asking for a fresh supply of monogrammed kitchen towels.
