On Backgammon and PokerUK Poker News interviews Kara Scott who presents "The Open" in Sky Poker. Formerly, a professional backgammon player, Scott had some interesting things to say about the connection between backgammon and poker. "There is a great deal of crossover between the two games and some of the people who are at the top of their game in poker are also high level backgammon players." Says Kara Scott and gives Gus Hansen as an example. She adds that both game have an element that adds pressure and raises the stakes (such as the doubling cube in backgammon). Kara Scott recommends backgammon players to learn the subject of odds, which will help them handle what in poker language called "bad beat" (when an underdog hand beats a favorite hand). To poker players who are interested in playing backgammon, Scott advices to take the time to learn backgammon strategies since "it's not as simple as it looks. It's not merely a matter of automatically moving chequers forward based on the rolls of the dice - there is a LOT more to consider with each move…".
