Online Backgammon News January 2010The online backgammon platform Dice Arena is running qualifiers for the WSOB Shootout, the final round of the World Series of Backgammon Season III to take place on February 6-7, 2009 at the Adam Street Club in London. The qualifiers for the cheap (€55) seats will take place every night at 20:00 CET; the qualifying event for the $480,000 shootout that will be attended by big backgammon stars such as Falafel, Gus Hansen and Masayuki Mochizuki will take place on January 31, offering at least one package prize worth $9000 including the $8100 entry and expenses. Off-line qualifiers will take place in London, Tokyo, Chicago and South Africa.

The poker and backgammon training site Drag the Bar has recruited PokerStars poker star (and former golf player) Dusty Schmidt, also known as Leatherass9, as an online instructor. The site, founded in 2009 and mainly focuses on poker, also has backgammon player and author Bill Robertie as a backgammon instructor who teaches backgammon lessons for the site's registered members. Robertie, who started out in chess, is also a reputable poker player and the co-author of the popular poker books series Harrington on Hold'em, together with former backgammon player and poker champion Dan Harrington.
