Online Gamers are Undesired Job Candidates?

If you have been called for a job interview, you might not want to mention playing World of Warcraft or other multi-player, time-consuming online games in front of your potential employer. According to Tumeroks, online gamers are thought to be unfocused, immature people who suffer of lack of sleep and might carry addictive personalities, qualities that make them as undesired job candidates as parents of little infants and church choir boys.

On top of all the unattractive characteristics attributed to online gamers, apparently some of them have to deal with job discrimination. It is reported that some recruiters were specifically ordered to disqualify job candidates who admit playing online games, especially of the time consuming family such as FPSs and MMORPGs.

The reasoning behind this rejection is the distrust in the gamers' ability to devote fully to their careers when their mind is preoccupied with their recreation. Yet, this reasoning might cover a suspicion that among human resource recruiters, WoW players is a synonym of hard addicts.

The gamers themselves, on the other hand, report on improvements in their work skills since MMORPGs have entered their lives. And there are even researches that show that playing WoW has developed their time management, leadership and strategic abilities, and even enhanced their social skills. But when it comes to certain employers, leadership aptitudes, though virtual proven, cannot compete with the will to work overtime.
