Online Gaming Look Beyond Poker Toward Skill GamesWhile in the real world, backgammon experienced fighters cross the street to play poker (just take a look at the recent WSOP champions), in the online games planet, it is the veteran online poker, casino and sports betting sites that choose to expand their inventory in skill games such as backgammon, gin-rummy and dominos. Only recently, two major European gambling networks have collaborated with skill gaming nets to provide their long time members variety of skill-based games. The UK based skill games network GameAccount, for example, has just renewed its contract with fellow country firm Sportingbet, the publisher of online sportsbook, casino, poker and bingo rooms, allowing the latter's gambling community to take part in the former's network of multi-player skill games that range from classics like backgammon to newer versions of traditional casino games as online multiplayer blackjack. At the same time, GameAccount has signed a contract with Italian online sports betting website Sisal. “Now is the time to look beyond poker.” says GameAccount COO Dermot Smurfit in an EGaming Review opinion column. The times when online poker seemed like a sure bet are far gone, he explains further and states that the "demand for poker has peaked". Backgammon only websites have also seen better days, he implies, with most backgammon players prefer investing their time and money in the hands of big multidiscipline operators that offer, on top of backgammon, sportsbooks, poker and other games. Thus, GameAccount has shifted its focus to customers retention, striving to offer existing players larger variety of games, bigger bonuses and more tournaments.
