Play Online Games to Cure CancerIf you are already wasting large portion of your precious time playing casual games such as solitaire, you might as well donate money to cure cancer. Play2Cures the new online game and fundraiser courtesy of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and Pledgeplay, offers five family-friendly online games, priced $1 per play, which helps fund blood cancer research and support children who suffer from leukemia and their families.
Pledgeplay, the inventor and creator of Play2Cures, was founded in 2006 by three software engineers who share family connection to children with blood cancer. One of them is Jim Carol, CEO of Game 7 Entertainment Inc., whose 11-years old son Taylor was diagnosed with lymphocytic leukemia and underwent bone marrow transplant. "He was our VP of game evaluation", says Carol about his son, who served as the online game expert of the company during his hospitalization period.
Taylor's assistance in designing Play2Cures games taught the two of them the healing effect of games. Or in Taylor's own words: "Helping to design this program…helped me get my mind off how terrible I was feeling most of the time". Thus, Play2Cures was launched with multiple aims; in addition to the pure, relieving, family tightening fun, Play2Cures' online games chief purpose is to fundraise for blood cancer research.
How does it work?
To play the games, one has to purchase at least 10 virtual tokens, purchased $1 each; the money transferred to the site in the safest and securest way is directed by to blood cancer research centers by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, a voluntary organization that provides education, consulting and other services to patients and their families.
