Pre World Backgammon Championship Tournament in FranceThe Worldwide Backgammon Federation (WBF), known for its spring Velden Open and European Backgammon Championships, has introduced the 1st Menton Backgammon Open. The new international backgammon event was set to precede the Monte Carlo World Backgammon Championship, opening on Wednesday, July 7 2010 with warm-up and side events and continuing on Thursday with the Menton Double Consulting Tournament. The main competition will be take place between July 9 and 11 and would be divided into three divisions (Master, Champion and Intermediate), plus a Ladies tournament.
With the absence of the World Series of Backgammon tour, whose Cannes events surrounded the World Backgammon Championships in the last couple of years, the international backgammon players who plan to spend their summer vacation in Monaco are now offered a new replacement – the WBF Menton Backgammon Open, in the French Riviera commune of Menton. Directed by Marco Fornasir, the Menton Open charges €700 entry fee to the 13-points Master division (€190 for the Quarter entry Master) and promises to give back 100% of the earnings to the winners. The prizes are allocated so the main winner gets 40% of the prize pool, his runner up and the Consolation winner – 15% each, while the Main semifinalists, the Consolation finalist and the Last Chance winner would each get 7.5% of the final prize.
World Backgammon Championship 2010
In the meantime in Monte Carlo, business as usual and the 35th World Backgammon Championship will take place at the Fairmont Hotel in Monte Carlo, Monaco starting on July 11, 2010. That despite last year's Facebook campaign calling to break the 35 years old tradition and relocate the World Backgammon Championship, the most prestigious event in the backgammon world to Las Vegas. This year, online qualifiers for the World Backgammon Championship are being held at the renewed TrueMoneyGames backgammon room with €81.25 + €6 entry fees and €2600 prize package.
